12 Hour Prayer

October 13, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - October 14, 2017 @ 12:00 pm

“Prayer is the power by which that comes to pass which otherwise would not take place.” ~Andrew Murray

Allow us to state a quick case as to why you should consider signing up for a time slot to come and pray along with other members of CBC and the surrounding community.

  1. Jesus Prayed
    1. (Several times throughout Scripture we find our Lord, Christ, pulling away to talk to his father. One example is found in Mark 1:35ESV where it states, “And rising very early in the morning while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.”)
    2. Another example is how Jesus prays for Peter at the prior to point of his denial of the man he spent three years in ministry with. Luke 22:31, 32 states, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
    3. Finally, our Lord’s concern for believers who walked with Him and the ones to follow after His ascension and the descending of the Holy Spirit is encapsulated in what is known as the High Priestly Prayer in John 17
  2. Jesus Expects us to Pray
    1. Prayer is a God-appointed means for us to express our complete dependence on Him for life and godliness. And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” Luke 11:9, 10 ESV.
    2. The purpose of the parable of the persistent widow is to demonstrate his disciples “ought always pray and not lose heart.” Luke 18:1ESV.
    3. Prayer to God is more than a divine summons, it is a royal invitation. Notice the writer of Hebrews admonishes us, “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
  1. The testimony of Scripture makes it clear God’s people should be found praying
    1. Prayer is to be a part of our discipline and devotion. Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving” Colossians 4:2.
        1. Pray out of gratitude
        2. Pray out of a burden to see the Word of God spread
    2. Prayer is a necessary component of our relationship with God.
        1. God does not need part-time lovers….in fact the Scriptures admonish us “Pray without ceasing” 1 Thess. 5:17
